What are the most commonly used airplane models and how to I calculate their average ground speed?
I know that it has to do with the wind and altitude, so I'm wondering how to take wind speed (say 30 mph), wind direction (say 30 degrees W) and altitude (say 3000 ft) to calculate the average speed of the plane.

- First you need to assign a value for airspeed. Then it's a simple vector problem you can solve either with trig or by drawing it to scale. It's called a wind triangle. Ignore altitude.
