Are radio controlled model airplanes less popular than they were years ago?
20 or 30 years ago, model airplanes were a somewhat regular sight at open clearings, parks, schools and so forth. Now they've all but disappeared except for at a few dedicated fields.

- Not if price is an indicator!
- Yeah, kids nowadays are on the net more than doing cool things like that. However, I just saw a remote-controlled model B-2 bomber in a store earlier today. So it's not completely dead.
- Many parks and schoolyards specifically prohibit model airplanes . . you just have to check. Most of the cheaper beginner RC electric planes come with a 27 Mhz frequency radio, which is an "open" band with all kinds of potential interference problems (and liability exposure). For those considering their first RC plane, look at the EasyStar ready-to-fly which includes a transmitter on the dedicated 72 Mhz RC model aircraft band.
